Below is information on three community assistance programs that may be helpful for our community members:
Olney Help is a nonprofit organization that provides short-term emergency food and financial assistance to individuals and families in Olney, Sandy Spring, Ashton, Brinklow, and Brookeville MD. It has a 40-year history in the local community and has long been relied on to provide short-term emergency food and financial assistance or referrals to anyone who requests it. The two primary programs to assist area residents are the Emergency Financial Assistance Program and the Emergency Food Program. http://www.olneyhelp.org/
Olney Help for Life is an all-volunteer, no-fee organization designed to assist senior residents in the Olney area to remain in their homes as they age. Its mission is facilitate neighbor-to-neighbor assistance on a voluntary basis for local area seniors. Efforts focus on transportation services and communication and socialization that enhance the quality of life for seniors. It provides a no-fee alternative to costly transportation options while affording community members– both seniors and others– meaningful volunteer opportunities. http://www.olneyhomeforlife.org/
Montgomery County, Maryland Fire & Rescue Services offer community outreach and education services. Free home smoke alarm installation and safety checks can be requested through the form at this link or by calling 311. Child Safety Seat Inspections are offered at 3 stations around the county in Silver Spring, Germantown, and Gaithersburg; appointments can be made at this link.
